Kind Words

Doreen is a master artisan. My wife and I are collectors of all forms of stained glass, from lamps to window panels, and have also been involved in greyhound adoption for many years. When my wife lost her “heart dog,” we wanted to find a fitting tribute to remember our special friend. When we contacted Doreen, we had high expectations — and were completely blown away by the finished product. Her expert guidance and recommendations helped ensure a final product which brought tears to our eyes. Some of the glass in our piece even came with a story! Chita (our hound) now shines every day in our home, and we are incredibly grateful for Doreen’s talent, craftsmanship, and passion, which is evident in her work. —Jerrod & Erin Johnson, and our friend “A.F. Chita”

We first saw Doreen Day’s art at an event and were immediately drawn to its beauty and craftsmanship. We commissioned a custom piece for our home. Doreen was a pleasure to work with. She provided several sketches with different options for us to consider as well as artistic guidance with color and material selection. The end result was a stunning stained glass window that is proudly displayed in our home. —Pam and Daryl

We have admired Doreen Day’s work for many years. No matter the size or item, each piece is individually and lovingly created and perfectly executed. Most of all, we love the creativity, workmanship and integrity of each item. We commissioned two large stained glass windows, one of which went into our front door making it the pièce de résistance in the entry way. Other smaller pieces are sprinkled throughout our home, again with each piece showing beautiful color combinations, which complement each other as well as perfect finishing off of the stained glass sections. We are so happy and grateful for our art pieces and see many more in our future. Heirlooms? Definitely! —Kathy S.

Doreen Day made an exquisite stained glass piece for me, about two feet tall, four feet in length and edged in oak, of a full stride greyhound. It is done in neutral tones and looks stunning hanging in my dining room window where the sunbeams catch it most of the day. I also purchased ceramic coasters hand painted with greyhounds. Doreen’s work is superior. She uses high quality glass and matches the grain, which is a big part of the overall quality of the piece. I have been very happy with all the pieces I have acquired from Doreen.—Karen  M.

Doreen’s glass art is a part of my every day life. There are three large pieces in my kitchen, all stunning Greyhound heads. They are colorful, dynamic, distinct. Each has its own personality. None of them are “patterned” pieces, mass produced, repetitious. Each was inspired by a living dog, with a name, a personality, a preference for this toy and that bed. Forever captured in a timeless art piece. And it is not just the glass that makes people come across the room to see the pieces close up when they come to my house. It is the metal work that is part of them. A jeweled, bronzed flower on this dog’s collar….a glittery bell hanging from the mouth of that dog…an intricate, hand-painted iris in the eye…these details are what really sets Doreen’s glass art apart from anything else I have seen. It is a privilege and a joy to have these pieces in my home.—Cynthia K.

I first saw Doreen’s creations at Greyhounds in Gettysburg 2017. I immediately commissioned a panel to represent our red brindle greyhound Chelsea. I sent Doreen several photos of Chelsea as well as descriptions of Chelsea’s personality. Doreen created a beautiful panel that captures our Chelsea’s “Princess” personality. I am honored that Doreen has displayed the piece on her web gallery as “Brindle Greyhound.” An acquaintance who owns a stained glass business for repairs, supplies and classes has seen Doreen’s work and commented the work is excellent. I totally agree! I’m planning to commission Doreen to create a panel of our previous two male greyhounds as a matching set with our Chelsea’s panel. —Barbara
